4. write on one of the themes found in novel
One theme found in the novel ‘ The Phantom of the Opera’ is love with Christine because of her beauty and kindness. He soon becomes obsessed with her her and goes to great lengths to help her. He teacher her to sing and even makes sure that she gets the lead role in the opera. Then, when discovers that she loves another, he kidnaps her and even tries to kill Raoul, the man whom Christine loves. Erik wants to force Christine to marry him. Raoul, on the other hand, loves Christine sincerely and truly wants to help her. Here we see the difference between love and obsession. However, Erik eventually lets Christine go and gives her his blessing to marry Raoul.
5. write about a lesson you have learnt from the novel
One lesson I learnt from the novel ‘ The Phantom of the Opera; is that if we treat people with kindness, they can change for the better. In the novel, Erik’s mother was ashamed of him and he was also shunned by other people. This made him become an evil person. Although he intends to force Christine Daae to marry him by threatening to kill Raoul, he has a change of heart when she shows him kindness. This shows that treating people with kindness can have positive effect on them.

The theme of friendship in the story
1. explain why you would recommend it to a friend
I would recommend the novel ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ to a friend because it is an intriguing story which revolves around the Paris Opera House in France. The main character, Erik, is an architect and an intelligent man who is not loved or accepted by society simply because he is born disfigured. He lives in a secret house under the opera house which he designs all by himself. He falls in love with Christine, a compassionate, girl, who is willing to give her love to him to make him happy. But, he knows that Christine is in love with Raoul. He sets both Christine and Raoul free and allows them to get married. I am sure my friend will enjoy a story which tells of true love and sacrifice.

2. an event that changes the life of one character in the novel
One event that changes the life of a character in the novel ‘ The Phantom of the Opera’ is the meeting of Erik, the Phantom, and Christine. Christine is a struggling singer, but under the tutelage of Erik, she becomes famous. Then her fame makes her come into contact with the rich and famous. She meets Raoul and they fall in love, but Erik’s obsession with Christine results in her being kidnapped and Raoul being imprisoned. However, Erik releases both Raoul and Christine in the end. If it hadn’t been for Erik, Christine would not have become a famous opera singer.
3. how characters who are friends help each other.
The novel I have chosen is ‘The Phantom of the Opera,’ a novel about a lonely rejected man known as the “Phantom” who roams the Opera House. People fear him because of his hideous appearance. So, he lives alone and he soon finds a friend in Christine Daae. She is his companion and he, being a talented singer, trains her to sing beautifully on stage. Somehow, she alone understands him. He even kidnaps her because he is afraid of losing her to Raoul. But later, he realizes that she is a truthful and sincere person who willing to give up her lover to be with him. So, he releases her. this shows that we need friends in this world to make us feel good and wanted in society.
