6. an event that has taught you something
In the novel ‘The Phantom of the Opera’, the event that has taught me something important in life is the episode where Erik, the “Phantom”, lets Christine Daae leave with Raoul. Erik tortures Raoul to force Christine to marry him. Yet, When Christine agrees to marry him and even kisses him out of sympathy, Erik is so touched by her sincere response that he releases all three of them. This shows that a sympathetic and forgiving person can change the way another person behaves for the better. There is no need to react negatively to someone just because that person behaves cruelly to you.

7. a character that you find interesting
The character that is interesting in the novel ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ is Erik. He takes pride in frightening people. He even demands that the new directors pay him 20, 000 francs and reserve a special box for him. He is a selfish man. Although Erik knows Christine is in love with Raoul, he still wants to force Christine to marry him. Erik will hurt anyone who ruins his plans. He captures Raoul and the Persian and tortures them when they want to rescue Christine. In the end, Erik lets Christine go when he is touched by her kindness. I think Erik is interesting because he is not totally evil. He does have a good side. He is a friend to Madame Giry. He is clever and he loves beautiful music. With his coaching, Christine becomes a star.

8. describe an incident that makes you sad
When Erik finds out that Christine Daae is going to marry Raoul, he becomes jealous and wants to kidnap her. On the night of the opera, Christine disappears when the lights are out. Thereafter, there is a commotion in the Paris Opera House. Raoul, together with the Persian, goes to look for Christine. With the help of the Persian, they are able to go through a passage to Erik’s house on the lake. Unfortunately, they end up in the torture room of mirrors in Erik’s house. They are trapped, and Erik wanted Christine watch them dying slowly. Erik tells Christine that he will let them go if she agrees to stay and marry him. Christine looks into Erik’s ugly face and then kisses him. He is greatly touched by her gesture and quiet agreement to become his wife. He kneels down before her and starts to cry, declaring his willingness to let her marry Raoul. The sad part is that Erik is willing to give up the only woman who has wver cared for him. He knows that Christine would never be happy with him. He is also touched by her willingness to sacrifice for the one she loves.

9. The theme of friendship in the story
In the novel ‘The Phantom of the Opera’, the theme of friendship is portrayed in the relationship between the Persian and Raoul. When Erik, the “Phantom”, kidnaps Christine Daae, it is the Persian who helps Raoul to find and save her. Friendship is also seen between Erik and Christine when he teaches her how to sing well and become the lead singer in the Opera. Although he later kidnaps her, he releases her when she is kind to him. Christine likes and respects Erik even though she had not seen him. Later on, when she does see him, despite being revolted by his face, she pities him and kisses him genuinely.
